Solar Eclipse Letterpress Postcard

When things in Fairfield began gearing up for the 2024 solar eclipse, my boss at the Wayne County Press tasked me with creating a related promotional item. I knew I wanted to incorporate the antique letterpress we had recently restored for creative projects. For an art directive, I wanted to base my work on sci-fi comic books and movie posters from the 1950s and 60s as the elements of wonder and awe surrounding the eclipse mirrored the sense of amazement that science fiction creates. Once the print was completed, it became a hit in the region and required two reprints to fulfill demand, with over 600 postcards being sold to locals and tourists visiting for the event.
